Offline WTN Generation
Generate legally-compliant digital Waste Transfer Notes at the point of collection with zero connectivity. All required fields — EWC codes, waste descriptions, carrier details — are pre-loaded on the device.
E-Signature Capture
Capture legally-binding electronic signatures from customers on the iPad screen. Signatures are embedded directly into the WTN and stored locally until sync. Works identically online or offline.
GPS Tracking
10-second GPS intervals recorded continuously throughout the route, even without mobile signal. The complete GPS trail is cached on-device and uploaded when connectivity returns, giving the office full route visibility.
Photo Capture
Drivers photograph waste at the point of collection for evidence and compliance. Photos are timestamped, GPS-tagged, and linked to the specific job. All images are stored locally and synced in the background.
Route Navigation
Full turn-by-turn route navigation with truck-safe routing downloaded to the device before departure. Drivers follow optimised routes between collections without relying on mobile data or external map apps.
Background Sync
A dedicated sync engine monitors connectivity and uploads completed collections, signatures, photos, and GPS data automatically. No driver intervention required — the office sees jobs complete in real time as signal returns.
How offline collection works
Download route to device
Before leaving the yard, the driver taps 'Download Route'. PaperRoute syncs the full day's schedule — customer details, site notes, waste streams, EWC codes, container info, and turn-by-turn navigation — into 16 local database tables on the iPad. The entire route is available offline in seconds.
Complete collections offline
Drivers work through their route exactly as they would online. At each stop they record waste collected, capture the customer's e-signature, generate a digital Waste Transfer Note, take photos if needed, and move to the next job. GPS position is logged every 10 seconds throughout. No internet required at any point.
Auto-sync when signal returns
PaperRoute's background sync engine continuously monitors connectivity. The moment the device picks up Wi-Fi or mobile data — even briefly — it uploads completed collections, signatures, WTNs, photos, and GPS trails. The office sees jobs appear in real time. Drivers don't need to do anything.

Yes. PaperRoute's driver app is architecturally offline-first — not just a fallback mode. What data is available offline?
PaperRoute caches 16 database tables locally on the device, including the full day's route with turn-by-turn directions, all customer details and site notes, waste stream configurations with EWC codes, container types and quantities, pricing data for on-site invoicing, and historical collection records. Drivers have everything they need without ever touching the network.
How does syncing work?
PaperRoute uses a background sync engine that monitors connectivity automatically. When the device regains signal — whether Wi-Fi or mobile data — all completed collections, signatures, photos, GPS trails, and WTNs are uploaded to the cloud in the background. Conflict resolution ensures nothing is lost if the same record was updated in the office while the driver was offline. The office sees completed jobs appear in real time as drivers move between signal areas.
What devices are supported?
PaperRoute's driver app runs on iPad and is optimised for in-cab use with large touch targets and high-contrast visuals. The app is built natively for iOS to take full advantage of local storage, GPS hardware, and camera integration. We recommend iPad 9th generation or newer for the best experience.
